"My kids are very young, but I think my service sets an example in their minds that there are bigger things going on than our day-to-day lives. Things that are wrong, and that their generation will be part of helping to fix.”
Bob Lewandowski, Mendoza College IT instructor, enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves after 9/11 left him with an unshakeable notion that he needed to contribute. Separated from his young family for 15 months when he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010, Lewandowski exemplifies a kind of hero who rarely makes the headlines: people willing to totally disrupt their own lives to serve wherever they’re needed, to the best of their abilities.
