2016

Molly Burd (MBA) was named to Poets & Quants “Best & Brightest MBAs in the Class of 2016” list. Burd is employed at AT&T.

Ryan Cushing (EMBA) and his wife, Colleen welcomed a son, John Robert on Aug. 19, 2016.

Chris Hartlage,Justin Jones and Laura McWhirter (all MBA) were named to the Poets & Quants “2016 MBAs to Watch” list.  Hartlage is a strategic planner for Emerson Electric — Process Management — Flow Solutions Group; Jones is a senior consultant at Ernst & Young in Dallas, and McWhirter is an associate at McKinsey & Company.

Ruth Riley (EMBA, ND ’01) was named to Poets & Quants “2016 Best & Brightest Executive MBAs” list. Riley is the general manager for the WNBA San Antonio Stars.

Keri Kei Shibata (EMBA) has been appointed chief of the Notre Dame Security Police (NDSP).  A 12-year veteran of the NDSP, Shibata most recently has served as deputy chief for safety services. She previously has been responsible for the University’s 911 dispatch center, crime prevention and outreach, security and guest services, Clery Act reporting, and training for NDSP personnel and campus safety officers, including security support of all residence halls on campus. A sworn police officer, Shibata focuses on campus law enforcement, sexual assault, domestic violence and the Clery Act. She was certified in August 2005.

2015

John Henry (MBA) the manager of customer success at Vennli, a visualization analytics platform, is included in the Tech 25 Class of 2016, a recognition of Indiana’s tech builders.  TechPoint launched the Tech 25, a prestigious selection of 25 individuals who are critical and exceptional performers helping to grow the community’s tech and tech-enabled companies.

Mark Madrid (MNA) was selected as a BBA Star of UT Austin’s McCombs School of Business during the school’s centennial year celebration. BBA Stars are awarded to outstanding alumni and faculty who have shaped the world for future generations and contributed to UT Austin’s mission to make a positive impact on society. Madrid is CEO of the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Joe Mueller (FIN) and Frederico Segura (FIN) co-founded Grain — a mobile app that connects family and friends in the realm of personal finance. Both work out of Silicon Valley — Mueller as the CEO and Segura, the chief financial officer. Grain is set to officially release on the iOS App Store in fall 2016.

2014

Andrew Brock (ACCT) was recently promoted to senior accountant at the Seymour, Indiana, office of Blue and Company. Brock joined the company in 2013.  He has industry experience in agricultural cooperatives, manufacturing, construction, nonprofit and employee benefit plans.

Drew Vaughn (EMBA) launched a law firm, NuVorce LLC, in 2014 with the goal to revolutionize the practice of divorce law through one guiding principle: Everything must create value for the clients. Clients pay flat fees for unlimited access to their attorneys. The firm has received recognition in several publications including Crain’s Chicago Business, Leading Lawyers, and Smart about Money for its unique business model. Vaughn is a professor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.


 

MENDOZA ALUMNI IN RIO

Gerek Meinhardt (MBA ’15, MGT IT ’13) played the part of linchpin for the United States men’s foil fencing team, leading a 45-31 comeback victory against top-seeded Italy in the bronze-medal match to bring home the first medal for a U.S. men’s foil squad since the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. The team victory gave Meinhardt, who planned to retire from fencing to focus on his career following the conclusion of the Rio games, his first medal in three Olympic appearances. At his first appearance in Beijing in 2008, he became the youngest U.S. Olympic fencer of all time at the age of 17.

Natalie Achonwa (MGT Consulting ’14) made her second straight appearance at the Olympics. Team Canada was eliminated in the quarterfinals by France. In 2009, Achonwa made history as the youngest player selected to the Canadian Senior National Team when she was just 16 years old. She recently helped Canada win gold medals at the 2015 Pan American Games and at the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship. Achonwa, a Fighting Irish team captain as a senior, earned Associated Press All-America third team and All-ACC second team honors with the Irish. At the time of her graduation, she ranked 12th on Notre Dame’s career scoring list (1,546 points), third in games played (145) and fourth in rebounds (970). She currently plays for the WNBA’s Indiana Fever, who selected her in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2014 WNBA Draft.

Margaret Bamgbose (MGT IT) claimed an Olympic slot in the 400-meter dash running for Nigeria. Bamgbose competed in the semifinals of the 400 meters but did not advance to the finals.  Bamgbose notched her first career Olympic qualifying time at the Nigerian Olympic Trials on July 8 in Sapele, Delta State. She crossed the finish line in 52.27 seconds to claim the bronze medal in the 400-meter final and secure the final Olympic berth. As part of the Nigerian 4x400-meter relay “A” team at the prestigious Warri Relays the following day, Bamgbose ran the anchor leg during a victorious time of 3:30:17.


 

2013

Emily Degan (ACCT) founded Saint Hugh, a hunting and outdoor leisure apparel company, and recently launched her first line of garments for female waterfowl hunters. The line includes a shooter’s jacket, shooter’s vest, pro pullover, pointer’s pants and trapper’s tights. In addition, the line will have branded long and short sleeve T-shirts and a tank top. The line will be marketed online and through a series of pop-up shops. Degan is the CEO of Saint Hugh — and its only employee — and responsible for everything from design to market and everything in between. Brett Murphy (MBA) has opened a new office for Lancaster Pollard in Chicago and will serve as the firm’s primary health-care banker for Illinois. Murphy will be providing senior housing and health-care clients with a full range of investment banking, mortgage banking, private equity, balance sheet financing and M&A advisory services. Prior to joining Lancaster Pollard, Murphy worked in the credit risk division of Banco Santander during its acquisition of Sovereign Bank. He also held credit-based positions at Wells Fargo Bank and State Street Bank and Trust.

2012

Jesse Deering (EMBA) has been appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer of both Mackinac and mBank by the directors of Mackinac Financial Corporation.  Deering was formerly the senior vice president and managing director of retail branch banking, marketing and special capital projects.  He joined mBank in 2005 and has more than 13 years of banking experience.

Richard Skelton (MGT ENT) has joined the law firm of Pomerene, Burns & Skelton. He was sworn in by Chief Justice Maureen O’Conner. His practice will center around wills, estate planning, contracts, personal injury and guardianships.

2011

Ryan Douglas Patton (FIN) has joined the Pensacola, Fla. division of financial advisors for Stifel Nicolaus. Previously, Patton worked at Raymond James headquarters in Pensacola and as an investment manager analyst at Morgan Keegan in Memphis. In 2015, he earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Christopher Larmoyeux (FIN) and Alejandra Lucia Astorga were married on Feb. 13, 2015 in Managua, Nicaragua. His Excellency Msgr. Fortunatus Nwachukwo, papal nuncio for Nicaragua officiated. Larmoyeux is an equity research analyst at Goldman Sachs, New York.

Eddie McDonough (MGT IT) founded the website, Neighbormate, for students can buy and sell items online using a platform that is guaranteed to be safe and scam-free. Saint Mary’s College was selected as the first community to have access to the site. The goal is to use the experience gained through the Saint Mary’s launch to develop a strategy that can be replicated at other institutions. neighbormate.com/

Carlos Pena (FIN) is a loan officer with Accion Chicago, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing credit and technical assistance to entrepreneurs who do not have access to traditional sources of financing.  Pena, who is actively involved in the startup ecosystem in Chicago as a mentor and coach, is responsible for organizing Startup Weekend, a 54-hour event where startup enthusiasts work on their ideas/concepts and pitch to a panel of industry experts.

2010

Robert Upton (EMBA) has joined AmeriQuest as vice president of financial services within AmeriQuest Transportation Services. Upton will work with the organization’s member and prospective member fleets in evaluating their historical maintenance costs, asset specifications, interest and tax rates, utilization, fuel economy, and acquisition costs. He will oversee the Great Lakes area, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. Prior to joining AmeriQuest, Upton spent 21 years with Enterprise Holdings.

2009

Ryan Ayers (MARK) has joined the Notre Dame men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach.  Ayers joins the Fighting Irish following two seasons as an assistant coach at Bucknell University, where the Bison earned trips to the National Invitational Tournament. While at Notre Dame, Ayers was a captain on the 2008-09 team that finished 21-15, and ranks fourth on the school’s all-time list for career 3-point shooting percentage (.424) and 11th in 3-point field goals made (170).

Amy Floria (EMBA) was named to Becker’s Hospital Review 150 Hospital and Health System CFOs to Know 2016. She received this distinction in 2015, as well.

Since 2008, Floria has served as the chief financial officer for IU Health Goshen. She has been with IU Health Goshen for more than 16 years and has more than 20 years of experience in health care and public accounting. She oversees all financial operations, including financial reporting and planning, budgeting, treasury and revenue cycle management for IU Health Goshen, and leads LEAN process improvement initiatives within the organization.

Kaity Fuja (MGTE) was named to the 2016 Michiana Forty under 40 class.  The Michiana Forty under 40 program shines the spotlight on 40 of the area’s most talented and dedicated young executives, professionals and leaders who demonstrate career success and community engagement, before the age of 40. Fuja is the owner and photographer at OMG Photography.

Adam Kronk (MNA, ’02) head of school, La Lumiere School, was named to the 2016 Michiana Forty under 40 class.

2008

Jill Bodensteiner (EMBA, ’91) is a senior associate athletics director at the University of Notre Dame. She was recently appointed to a five-year term on the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship Sport Committee. Bodensteiner will serve on a committee that is charged with numerous responsibilities, including the selection, seeding and bracketing for the annual NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship.

Sean Bliss (EMBA) has joined AmeriQuest Business Services as director of products and services. Bliss supports internal and external relationships, operation strategies and reporting. He brings more than 15 years of product management experience to his role.

Evan Rankin (ACCT) is a forward with the Toledo Walleyes hockey team. A compelling encounter with an enthusiastic young fan planted the seed for Rankin to help organize a fantasy hockey camp for players with developmental disabilities. Rankin met the young man who played for a special-needs team when he came to watch a Walleyes game. The inaugural Professional Hockey Academy Special Hockey Fantasy Camp was held in Livonia, Mich., on June 4-5, 2016. It was sponsored by the American Special Hockey Association, which was created in 2000 to give people of all ages and abilities a chance to learn and grow by playing hockey.

2007

David Saucedo II (ACCT) is vice president of the family business, Saucedo Lock Co. In 2015 and is a candidate for mayor of El Paso, Texas.  In 2015, Saucedo was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to a six-year term on the Texas Board of Nursing.  He also serves as president of the El Paso Boys and Girls Club Board.

2006

Steve Reynolds (ACCT) has been promoted to principal at Trivest Partners.

Luis A. Zapata (MBA) was named to the 2016 “Michiana Forty under 40” class.  He is an assistant vice president with 1st Source Bank. 2005

J.B. Long (FIN) has secured an NFL job as the radio play-by-play voice of the Los Angeles Rams. He has had various play-by-play assignments for ESPN, the Big Ten Network and the MLB Network.

Mike McDonald (EMBA) was recently appointed executive vice president, business development for Prime Advantage after serving as vice president of business development for Prime Advantage. He joined the company in 2000 as a regional account manager, and has been leading the company’s business development and marketing efforts since 2007. McDonald was named a Supply & Demand Chain Executive Pro to Know for four consecutive years beginning in 2013.

Michael Runfola (MSA) was recently appointed to partner by Ernst & Young LLP. Runfola joined the Ernst & Young LLP Assurance practice in 2004. He serves companies ranging from private start ups through the IPO process, to established, publicly-traded global technology brands. He is experienced with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requirements, technical accounting topics and international service coordination. He is a licensed CPA and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

2003

David Burkavage (MSA, ACCT ’02) and Danielle M. Bunting were married on Sept. 3, 2016, in St. John the Evangelist Church, Philadelphia.

John Gibbons (FIN) delivered the keynote address at Duquesne University’s 2016 MBA Sustainability diploma ceremony. Gibbons is the senior investment officer for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).  USAID is the lead federal agency that works to end extreme global poverty and to enable resilient, democratic societies to realize their potential. Gibbons role at USAID is to unlock needed financing in the environmental and conservation sectors through the structuring of credit guarantees and other innovative products to help tackle development problems.

2002

Martin Ingelsby (MARK) has accepted the head coaching position for the men’s basketball team at the University of Delaware. Ingelsby was a 13-year member of the University of Notre Dame men’s basketball staff and four-year monogram winner for the Fighting Irish men’s basketball team. Ingelsby joined the Irish staff in 2003-04 and served six seasons as the coordinator of basketball operations before moving up to the coaching staff in July of 2009.

2001

Brian Stanley (FIN) was named to the 2016 “Michiana Forty under 40” class. Stanley is a financial adviser with Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Company. Nicole Douillet (FIN) has been appointed executive director responsible for business development and client portfolio management at Cornerstone Capital Investment Management (CCIM), the investment advisory arm of Cornerstone Capital Group.

Thomas Studebaker (ACCT) has been appointed COO by the board of directors of TerraForm Global Inc. Studebaker is a managing director in the turnaround and restructuring practice of AlixPartners, LLP’s Boston office. Prior to joining the firm in 2008, Studebaker gained experience with a boutique restructuring group in Chicago, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Metro Fuel Oil Corporation and a privately held global consulting firm.  He is a CPA and a member of the Turnaround Management Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors.

1999

Michael Bachrodt (FIN) has joined Bridge Bank as business line manager in its Renewable Resource Group based in San Jose, California. He will be responsible for overseeing the group’s portfolio with day-to-day responsibilities, including risk management, deal selection and navigation of the group’s business strategy.

Phillip A. Johnson (EMBA, ND ’81) has been promoted to senior director of campus safety and emergency management at the University of Notre Dame. Johnson previously served the University as police chief since 2007. For the past two years, he has concurrently been responsible for directing Notre Dame’s emergency management efforts. He will continue in the latter role.

In his new role, Johnson will assist Mike Seamon, VP for campus safety and event management, with the daily operations within the campus safety division. He will also be responsible for assisting in the coordination and implementation of various safety elements associated with major University events, including commencement, Alumni Reunion Weekend and home football game weekends.

Johnson joined NDSP as assistant director in 1986, was named associate director in 2005 and became director/chief two years later. He was appointed by Govs. Mitch Daniels and Mike Pence to serve on the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation Board of Directors and is a member of the board of directors for the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police. A longtime member of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, he is a past president of the organization.

1994

Pete Bercich (FIN), former Minnesota Viking linebacker and assistant coach, has been named head football coach and director of development at Hill-Murray School, Maplewood, Minn. Bercich played for the Vikings from 1995-2000. Following his retirement, he remained with the Vikings organization as a defensive assistant coach for five seasons, and has worked as color analyst for Vikings games on the Vikings Radio Network since 2007.

Mike Seamon (MBA, MGT ‘92) has been appointed the University’s first vice president for campus safety and event management.  In the newly created position, Seamon will continue to lead Notre Dame Security Police, the Notre Dame Fire Department, the Risk Management and Safety Department and football Game Day Operations and emergency management, and he will oversee the multiple components associated with event space on campus.

1992

Rev. Mark Thesing, CSC, (MBA, ND ’85, ’81) was recently elected to the board of directors of Notre Dame Federal Credit Union.  Fr. Thesing is the director of finance and administration for the Mendoza College of Business. He was ordained a Holy Cross priest in 1986. He currently serves the men of Duncan Hall and the Notre Dame Football team as chaplain.

1991

Philip Iapalucci Jr. (MBA) has been named vice chancellor of administration and finance by Indiana University South Bend. Iapalucci’s 25 years of experience in financial management includes the University of Notre Dame, Southwestern Michigan College, the University of South Carolina system, Eastman Kodak and Deloitte & Touche.

1990

Jamere Jackson (FIN) has been elected to the board of directors of Eli Lilly and Company. He will serve on the audit and finance committees. Jackson is the CFO of Nielsen Holdings.

Charles Jerich (MBA) has been promoted to the role of tax manager by Louis Plung & Company, a regional public accounting firm in Pittsburgh.  Jerich has more than 25 experience working at Big 4 and regional public accounting firms.  He is an active member of the Allegheny Tax Society and Notre Dame Club of Pittsburgh, as well as a member of a host committee that helps raise money each year for a charity golf outing benefiting Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania.

Jim Scazzero (FIN) has been promoted to manager of the Atlanta office of the Allen Lund Company. Scazzero has been with the company since 1991.

1989

Byron Spruell (MBA, ND’87) was recently named the NBA president of league operations.  Spruell’s responsibilities will include overseeing rule change processes, game official training and evaluation, and conduct standards and discipline enforcement. He also will work with USA Basketball and the International Basketball Federation to promote the game worldwide. Spruell has more than 25 years of global professional services experience and is on boards of the Museum of Science and Industry, Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and Metropolitan Family Services in Chicago, as well as the Jackie Robinson Foundation in New York.

1988

Mark Anderson (ACCT) has been named president of United Road Services.  In his new role, Anderson will focus on time execution of the company’s strategic plan. He most recently serves as COO of the company.

Sarita Harcourt (MSA) was named to the board of the Notre Dame Club of Los Angeles (NDCLA), filling the vacancy left by her husband, Tracy Harcourt (MSA ’88), who recently stepped down. Sarita is analyst in financial review and management with the Community Development Commission of L.A. County. Tracy is the owner of So Cal Home Loan in Whittier, Ca. The Harcourts’ daughter, Darby, is enrolled at Saint Mary’s College.

1987

Doug Sibila (ACCT) has been appointed to Team NEO’s board of directors. Sibila is a third generation owner of Peoples Services Inc. and serves as president and CEO.

Sibila worked for three years for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) in Cleveland, Ohio, and New York City before returning to the family business in 1990. He was named vice president in 1992, responsible for sales and marketing. In 2001, he was named president and chief operating officer and became CEO in 2004. Team NEO’s Board oversees the economic development organization and is responsible for leading the implementation of Northeast Ohio’s Regional Economic Competitiveness Strategy (RECS), which was created by business and philanthropic leaders to guide the region’s growth.

Valerie Barker-Waller (FIN/Business Economics) recently joined the team at YMCA of the USA, headquartered in Chicago, as senior vice president and chief marketing officer.  Barker-Waller invites her classmates and other Mendoza alums to share personal “Y stories” with her via valerie.waller@ymca.net. Barker-Waller is also a member of the Mendoza College Business Advisory Council.

1986

Scott C. Malpass (MBA, ND ’86) vice president and chief investment officer at the University of Notre Dame, has been elected chair of the board of directors of TIFF Advisory Services Inc. (TAS), the primary regulated investment advisor within the TIFF organization. Malpass was elected to the TAS Board in 2011.

1985

Jim Kelly (FIN) was recently named group head of Vendor Financial Services for Wells Fargo.  The Wells Fargo Vendor Financial Services group works with manufacturers, dealers and distributors to help them manage their equipment inventory, enhance sales opportunities and serve their customers.  Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Kelly was the president of GE Capital’s Vendor Finance business, where he was responsible for attracting and winning new relationships, as well as managing and growing finance programs with manufacturers and dealers across multiple industries.

1984

David Gaus, MD (ACCT) founder and executive director of Andean Health & Development in Ecuador, is the recipient of the 2016 Humanitarian Award from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). The AAFP Board honored Gaus who has “built a reputation as an innovative, dedicated, compassionate physician who overcomes economic, cultural, bureaucratic obstacles to care for underserved patients and communities.” Gaus also is the winner of the 1999 Tom Dooley Award and was named Social Entrepreneur of 2014 by the World Economic Forum.

1983

Greg Miller (ACCT) has joined Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. as EVP and chief development officer with oversight for the organization’s U.S. and international development. He joined the company from Caesar’s Entertainment, where he most recently served as EVP, development.

Andy Panelli (MBA, ND ’77) recently produced a documentary titled The Greatest Team: Notre Dame’s Unrivaled 1946-47 Football Squads. The documentary uses a high impact mix of game footage and interviews from players, coaches and sports writers to describe the remarkable accomplishments of these teams. The project spotlights head coach Frank Leahy’s fanatical attention to detail, the brutality of the practices and the bone crushing scrimmages that forged the teams’ successful back-to-back national championships.

1982

John Ebert (ACCT) was recently inducted into the Bridgeport High School Hall of Fame by the Bridgeport High School Alumni and Friends Foundation in West Virginia. Ebert is the owner of the area’s McDonald’s franchises. In 2012, Ebert started the ACT prep program for Harrison County students. He has also been part of Partners in Education with Bridgeport High School for more than 20 years and has worked with the school’s marketing classes on numerous projects.

1981

Pat LaPlatney (ACCT) was named president and CEO of Raycom Media, an employee-owned company and one of the nation’s largest privately owned broadcasters.

1980

Mark Alexander (ACCT) has joined the board of directors for W.P. Carey Inc., an internally managed global net lease real estate investment trust. Alexander is chairman and CEO of Alexander Investors LLC, and a member of the Business Advisory Council at the Mendoza College of Business.

John Lomacz (MBA) has joined Brooke Chase Associates as vice president of sales and marketing for Wellborn Forest Products. With responsibility for the development and execution of all sales and marketing strategic plans and activities, Lomacz will manage departmental teams, sales operations and account services, and have key input in determining the company’s direction for product mix and growth of its dealer base. Prior to Brooke Chase Associates, Lomacz led the Southwest Region Dealer Channel for MasterBrand Cabinets. He previously held sales and marketing management positions at Thermador, Dacor and the Jenn-Air appliance company.

1979

Mike Bobinski (ACCT) is Purdue University’s new director of Intercollegiate Athletics. Bobinski has held the same position at the Georgia Institute of Technology since 2013, as well as the University of Akron and Xavier University previously.  Hei has 30 years of athletic management experience, with two decades of that as an athletic director. Bobinski played baseball at Notre Dame before becoming a certified public accountant. After working for five years with the Walt Disney Company and large accounting firms, he started his athletic administration career at Notre Dame in 1984. 

John Hagale (ACCT) has been elected to the board of directors of Oasis Petroleum Inc. and a member of its audit committee and nominating and governance committee.  He served as EVP and CFO of Rosetta Resources Inc. from November 2011 until the completion of the merger of Rosetta with Noble Energy Inc. in July 2015. Prior to joining Rosetta, Hagale was EVP, CFO and CAO of the Methodist Hospital System.

He began his career with Deloitte Haskins and Sells, and has more than 30 years of financial and accounting experience and is a certified public accountant. Hagale currently serves on the Board of Directors of Cobalt International Energy, Inc.

1978

Kenn Ricci (ACCT) recently was elected to the University of Notre Dame Board of Trustees. Ricci has spent more than 30 years developing innovative services in the aviation industry. He is the principal of Directional Aviation Capital, which operates a family of private aviation companies, including Flexjet, Flight Options, Sentient Jet, Skyjet, Nextant Aerospace, Constant Aviation and Corporate Wings.
Ricci and his wife, Pamela, recently made a $5 million gift to the University for a project that will create an outdoor home of the Band of the Fighting Irish and a world-class facility for students participating in RecSports.

The author of Management by Trust, a book that features practical techniques for building employee trust and success, Ricci has been honored as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and received the William Ong Memorial Award for meritorious service to the aviation industry, as well as the Harvard Business School’s Dively Entrepreneurship Award. Ricci has served on Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business Advisory Council and numerous other boards.

1972

John ‘Jack’ Clements (ACCT) recently joined the Southern Arizona Leadership Council (SALC). He is president of The Clements Agency, a full-service, independent insurance agency that he founded in 2000. Clements is a certified insurance counselor, a CPA, a licensed real estate agent in Arizona, and is a licensed insurance agent in more than 30 states.

Bill Warren (BS Commerce) was unanimously elected president emeritus by the Class of 1956 at its 60th class reunion. Warren was presented a certificate in recognition of his extraordinary leadership and steadfast loyalty to the class and the University.
