ER Efficiency

Using data for predictive decision making can potentially reduce patient wait times in a hospital emergency room. The framework is less expensive than other leading models but maintains a high predictive accuracy. This novel framework by Sriram Somanchi, assistant professor of ITAO, can improve emergency room efficiency. View the study.

Bank Stress Tests

A study by assistant professor of Finance Jun Yang and co-authors assesses the post-crisis of 2008 implementation of bank stress testing. Although they found little evidence that political or other connections affect the quantitative element of the tests, those connections do affect the qualitative dimension. View the study.

Assessing CEOs

Research from Tim Hubbard, assistant professor of M&O, shows Boards of Directors and the media tend to ‘get it right’ when assessing CEOs. Contrary to previous research, this study looks at CEO performance within the context of how and when they inherited the firm. View the study.

Film Reviews

A measure created by Shijie Lu, the Howard J. and Geraldine F. Korth Associate Professor of Marketing, captures overlap between critic and user review content. The study found if both discuss the same aspects, it increases the likelihood people will go see a movie. View the study.

Service Contracts

ITAO associate professor Xuying Zhao investigated why some industries are eliminating service contracts. She identified expectation-reality discrepancy as a key determinant, with service contracts causing a competition-intensifying effect. View the study.

Audit vs Review

Audits are the current gold standard for financial reporting. However, a study by
Brad Badertscher, Deloitte Foundation Department Chair of Accountancy, shows that a review can provide nearly the same quality assurance for private firms. View the study.

Crisis Response

Dean Shepherd, the Ray and Milann Siegfried Professor of Entrepreneurship, analyzed how organizations respond to crisis events, such as a natural disaster, where they need help to re-establish themselves and their community. His study presented three separate avenues for community-organization emergence. View the study.
